The Suggestions I left on IBN Discussion board

This is exactly what I was looking for where I can my reaction to this horrendous act more audible !

It's not a surprise to notice that NOT a single post or comment has faith on our politicians! And we have elections to elect them! I do not want to go to much details, but here are my thoughts -

1. The citizens of India have to take a stand and show the government that we are not going to take their nonsense anymore.

2. To be able to do that I WOULD boycott the coming election and all the present political parties. We should just stop the election and election campaign that anyone tries to do. The media should and initiate something like this to give common people the strength and courage to fight corruption. The media should market or focus on an idea of 'UNITED INDIA' and see how many people are willing to give their idea, time and faith to it! The UNITED INDIA should have the best people and professional from different field with new ideas to make a change!! The present system just cannot be trusted anymore! THE UNITED INDIA DOES NOT BELIEVE IN RELIGION, REGION OR STATE. ITS A UNITED INDIA FIGHTING FOR JUST ONE CAUSE. GET RID OF THE GARBAGE ACCUMULATED IN OUR OWN BACKYARD!

3. Rewrite the constitution and overhaul the parliament with new educated well equipped people rather than the present OLD antisocial and corrupt politicians. This would be possible only by forming a new team and dissolving the old ones. If a old car stops working we have to just dismantle it and start fresh! Else we would be pouring and wasting unwanted resources in trying to repair the OLD fellow with no positive outcome. And that's exactly what's happening to us!

4. Unless the political party has each and every member in that group is educated and has gained some creditability in his chosen profession or field should be just dissolved and canceled. THEY DO NOT HOLD A IDENTITY or HAVE A SAY IN ANYTHING.

5. The media should start a anti-corruption mission. Through Community Video program make every citizen a watch guard of corruption by enabling them to take videos of people who ask and seek corruption, irrespective of who they are!

6. Every state should come up with their own team of people trained in Finance, Accountancy, Planning, Management, R&D, Entrepreneurship for each sector for e.g MEDICAL, HEALTH, BUSINESS, EDUCATION, AGRICULTURE, ENVIRONMENT etc. Follow a corporate structure with all the above sector starting from the block and Taluka levels to the state and center!! These are professionals chosen from each and every fields assigned responsibility of a section of the pie NOT just bureaucrats and politicians.

7. Complete Transparency, open monitoring and evaluation of the entire system

8. As a remote sensing scientist I can see a strong potential of science and technology in fixing our security issues right away! Specially with the available satellite and Computer technologies!! Having more number of lab, out sourcing to such data to private companies, or privatization of national labs by accelerating the rate of data processing and making them available in real time to public and assigned departments for their immediate action. Am surprised why haven't we done so yet! Why are we wasting time in bureaucracy! To make any of this happen and make a difference we would FIRST need to dismantle the OLD SYSTEM.

9. All the borders around the country have to be sealed. If you do not have an INDIAN passport YOU HAVE TO LEAVE. THAT' S IT. WE HAVE TAKEN ENOUGH REFUGEES! WE HAVE TO Stop now. THE PRESENT GOVT CAN NEVER TAKE SUCH A STAND. HENCE WE NEED NEW PEOPLE NEW TEAM. The older team has too much of vested interest of their own and they do not care about the country!!

10. There has to be a drastic change in the attitude of how and what we think of ourselves as Indian's and where we want to see ourselves. Unless there is a sense of pride in us we cannot inculcate the sense of nationality and responsibility in anybody! AND WE NEED TO DO THAT REAL SOON, IF WE HAVE TO SAVE OURSELVES.

11. To reduce the potential of fellow Indians becoming a victim of bribe we have to focus and rebuild our own economic system which means creating jobs and getting every one at par!! WE HAVE NOT DONE THIS Till now, because we do not have a system that really cares!! hence the CITIZENS OF India, in India or abroad should just come up with an alternative solution.

12. Every citizen should be interviewed by the media to find what they think they can do for the country or they would d if they are given the power. Am sure lot of brilliant ideas are going to pop up, and we should just go from there!!

13. I DO NOT SEE A HOPE and FUTURE for INDIA until we the citizen challenge the present GOVT. and come up with our 'UNITED CITIZENS OF INDIA'

am frustrated and am very angry, but if ever I get a chance an opportunity to do something this is what I would want to do!!

While I agree with you on the change that we all would like to see, most of these points do not have reasonable action items against them... this looks more of a wish list to me !

Below are a few things that I do not agree to completely :

I do not see why boycotting the election would help.. there are new and young guys in many constituencies who are participating as candidates in elections... it makes all the sense to vote for them... not voting is an absolute irresponsible act !

Media does do anti-corporation campaigns off and on... almost every second week you can see it happening, at one level or the other.. the only thing is that when you are not watching all the Indian channels you will not see that happening either!

RTI is a very strong tool that has been given to the public, the only thing is that change cannot be done overnight and one has to be patient... I know of people who have benefited from RTI and I am sure with time, and some effort RTI will prove to be a tool that ensures transparency..

About the borders being sealed, its virtually impossible... There have been many attempts to electric fence the border in the north, but every single year the snow and the difficult terrain makes is just impossible to manage it.. lets not even talk about how to seal every meter of the borders on the sea !

Citizens do not need to be interviewed by the media to gather ideas... do you want to build a repository of ideas of what? What matters is the do-ability and the will to perform which can be done by an individual if he wants to ! Giving ideas is one of the easiest things to do, and everything does not need to go to the govt to be done ! what is a citizen's responsibility when it comes to doing things?

You seem to be advocating a complete change, which in my honest opinion, is IMPOSSIBLE... there has to be a transition, yes, but remove EVERYTHING that is present right now, and get everything NEW looks like a preach attitude than a do attitude !

What matters is that a lot of us want change in the country and feel very very strongly about it, but before just throwing mud at the entire system one needs to also understand what is happening in the country to make changes ! Changing everything would not resolve anything...

@om - thanks for your comment...but i don't agree and subscribe to your idea of passivity. If something has to be gone it has to be done more aggressively and more actively. Here is an example -

If I have to change and improve the road network or security system and their condition in mumbai, this is what I will do,

1. Get high resolution image of entire Mumbai

2. Employ image analyst specialist to Map the entire road network, city borders and every details on ground at the resolution of 1m (airborne sensors). We can do satellite mapping of the same at 10- 25m resolution too! Do real time image processing and monitor the coast or the entire city!

Available sensors can identify metal or non-metallic objects very easily. Use this technology to monitor the coast. Map each and every corner of the city (an building) using 1m resolution airborne or other satellite data and know what is where and what should be where !!

3. Send out a team of young professionals to validate ground situation (road conditions, Housing information, Population information, etc etc)
4. Have a 2nd team of people to input all of this in a database

5. A spatial analysis team that identifies zones of immediate attention, moderate attention, no attention

6. The analysis would extract ALL THE DEPARTMENTS that needs to be addressed IN EACH and EVERY Location.
7. The analysis can perform a cost benefit analysis and allocate funds and people to manage each point
8. An evaluation team to follow it up non a yearly basis on why the damages were not resolved

THIS IS A very workable model BUT it will NEED 100's and 100's of people and specially the ONES who can fight corruption and greed! AS long as this entire team in this model is composed of a team who are new and are professionals in their field,IT IS BOUND TO WORK.

but unfortunately there will be loss of funds and corruption at each level given the current mindset of people UNLESS they know YOU ARE UNDER WATCH BY SOMEONE (BE IT MEDIA or an Anti-CORRUPTION team formed by new people again)

Given the scientific tools we have the scientific world can suggest 100's of executable model to work on a system BUT executing it in field IS what matters the most, and whether we want it AND THAT's where a PASSIVE WAY IS NOT GOING TO LEAD TO ANYTHING!!!

IF PROBLEM of India has to addressed IN A MEANINGFUL WAY IT HAS TO BE ATTACKED FROM ALL POSSIBLE DIRECTIONS!

Tell me about RTI when it benefits every citizen of India!

Media Has its problems but IF IT is handled by rationale people IT can change lot of things!!

Totally agree that 'Boycotting Election' is not a way out, it was more a metaphor to NOT support or vote for any of the politicians we have today! AND JUST having ONE new politician among us, IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH to do or change anything!!

Everything I suggested IS doable if the so called GOVT wants to do it!!!!

AND YOU CANNOT expect the citizens to be honest, and responsible and have a national pride WHOSE leaders have none!!

I think you did not pay attention on how science and technology can be used in improving security! There can be round the clock satellites which can monitor each and every corner, along with people monitoring!!!!

As far the DO-ABLE part goes, IT BOILS DOWN TO FORMING A NEW TEAM with YOUNG PROFESSIONALS, IN EACH AND EVERY FIELD or DEPARTMENT THAT ONE CAN THINK of fighting FOR THE UPCOMING ELECTIONS!

The chosen people can come up with a work flow model in their field of expertise to the finest detail (as I mentioned above) with all the assumptions and hurdles that one has, present it to the public, and get their VOTE of confidence.

While some of the action steps mentioned here may not sound practical on the first look, we must keep in mind that for far too long we all have been too laidback and passive about change. There's no doubt about the fact that there needs to be a complete overhaul of the system and it needs to be done ASAP. There's no room left for the long and slow transition process.

Its true that taking such strict measures would shock the world initially but must we must keep in mind that we are not out here to please the world. Out first objective should be to safeguard the nation and its priorities. These turbulent times demand rapid action and out of the box thinking and most of the 13 points mentioned above truly make tremendous sense. Keep going Tanu.

Cleaning up the system is more important then cleaning up the politicians. We are the part of system and we form it. Now we are in full mood to change the things upside down . Remove every evil remove every bad politician. But have we looked into ourselves? what we have done to this country?
We have to make the start from our selves. We ( every citizen of India) are responsible for this mess and individual citizen has to do the starting.
Let me take an example. I am going on a road on my bike or car. A policeman stops me for checking. I don't have the license or i don't have the identity; what i am going to do? I would bribe the policeman and try to get rid of that policeman as soon as possible. Now here is the problem. If the system is right that policeman would never ever let me go without proper inquiry or satisfying himself. That policeman is also Indian and following a system. If i am able to bribe the policeman and he lets me off without proper checkup then i may be a terrorist who is coming with explosives in my car and next terrorist explosion is waiting any time.
But Being a good citizen i should understand that i have to pay the fine. And if that policeman is asking for bribe and blocking my way after satisfying him with every possible identity, then being and true Indian i have to set the system right by punishing that policeman at very moment either by calling his seniors or with the help of fellow citizens around.
If that system is followed properly at every place by every Indian then no terrorists can do any harm any where in India.
But what is going here is complete system failure.
Wrong people can do what ever they want and can evade the law as long as they want. Guilty is not punished and common man can't live with honesty. With money and power our politicians are directly or indirectly supporting this wrong systems. The terrorists are taking help of these loop holes and succeeding. They will succeed for ever unless and until we Indian's never bind ouself in a proper system and feel the power of ourselves to correct the things at the very spot.
In My opinion the need of the our is to awaken the Indian's to follow the proper system and punish those immediately who are violating it. Punish the politicians who are not following the system, punish the bribe taking babus, punish corrupt politicians.

4. though I agree with the number 4 but it is not feasible coz more than half of the country is uneducated..so the leader they choose are of among them..and do u kno the corupt most leaders are not uneducated....actually one line is there..power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely..

5. I agree again...but i don't think so media structure who actually manufacture news will pay much heed to it...

6. GOVT do have this thing..BDO and IAS officers are there who are master int his...but in bottom level power distribution iis uneven...

7. RTI act is there...i don kno how many people actually used it

8. good u r not a kid..u r a scientist...and u want the satellites to cover all the data over india and u want the processing of data to be privatised.... do u kno how u get credit card call on ur phone and the different ads...it is because...the private phone companies actually sell ur usage info to the others... so wat u will think will happent to national security if u r privatising all the national labs...

9. Can u recognize the differnce between a paki national or a bangladeshi national....or do u carry ur passport everyday.... do u kno India is the seventh largest country...and do u kno the border terrain....and how many soldiers laid down their life...for u to disrespect them by questioning their efficiency..my frnd died on border last year...coz the area of infiltration was inaccessible to remote surveillance ..

10. No questions on that...and it is so true..i agree without any flinch

11. I agree again

12. NO...politics require vision and every brilliant man is not a visionary

13. I agree but proper way and platform is needed

Wow!! Such a complex system and and such a radical change...

Do any one of us have the solution??

The changes you suggest about boycotting the elections most of the educated masses would disagree why??
because the educated folks have the ability to pick the best from the worst..

Try refusing bribe or 'chai pani' to some government official for some work and see how much 'time' you will loose in the bargain. No one has the time and these people have realized that

We seem to be having a 'chalta hai' attitude.

Here is how i see it..
I personally cannot control the people around me Who would be asking for bribes- So what do I do????
Control the people under me...
THIS TOO IS COMPLICATED But at least a start...... If I am appointed as the leader the people under me look for my approval- When the leader is corrupt the whole system collapses

Taking this to a next level what do I do ????
-GET IN THE SYSTEM TO CHANGE THE SYSTEM-

Kisi ko puuchna whether they would wish to take part to make a change by stepping into the key position 99% would back out..
Tanu this happens even with our stupid ISA elections try multiplying this several hundred thousand times and see how complicated it gets.
But thats the way to go about it
AND THEN WE TAKE IT FROM THERE

NOW WOULD YOU BE WILLING TO STEP INTO IT??? - I Know I would be stepping on this some day
I only hope this fire is burning with the same intensity- Amen- Good Luck !!

I am said...

@SM - thanks sameer, good luck with ur goal

@DM - ok, even if I do not agree to many of your viewpoints, what are your suggested solutions on gives issues or challenges?
